I had wished to see The Mütter Museum for several reasons. Firstly, due to my interest in the field of medicine and more pointedly, so as to see the brain of Albert Einstein. I also wanted to see the new Civil War Medicine Exhibition (The greatest threat to the lives of soldiers during the American Civil War was not bullets from the opposing side but disease). There were other parts of the museum that surprised and intrigued me. The Hyrtl Collection of Skulls (1874) was an attempt to counter the claims of phrenologists, who held that cranial features were evidence of intelligence and personality and that racial differences caused anatomical differences. Each skull is mounted on a stand, and many skulls are inscribed with comments about the person’s age, place of origin, and cause of death. It was the longest allocated amount of time for any event of the trip and the 2.5hrs were well spent...
A few hours of Shopping in Philadelphia
Ask anyone who knows me... shopping is NOT one of my favourite things to do AT ALL! But Milton and Self spent a few hours checking out the shops in downtown Philadelphia - Mettlers American Mercantile, Jack Wills, Apple Store, Lush, Diesel, Di Bruno Brothers & Williams Sonoma

Visit to the National Zoo in Washington DC
Each time I visit Washington DC, I always head to the National Zoo to see the Panda Bears Breeding Program. They are some of the most endangered species of animals on the planet and it has always been of a concern to me that on planet of over 7 billion human beings there are approximately only 1,600 giant pandas alive. I support Pandas International - http://www.pandasinternational.org/ - an organisation that promotes the work being done to ensure the survival of these amazing animals.
From the website of the Smithsonian National Zoo - 'Giant pandas Mei Xiang and Tian Tian are at the National Zoo under a Giant Panda Cooperative Research and Breeding Agreement, signed in January 2011, between the Zoo and the China Wildlife Conservation Association. This extends the Zoo’s giant panda program through 2015. Mei and Tian are the focus of an ambitious research, conservation, and breeding program designed to preserve this endangered species.' I was able to be at the Zoo for the 'feeding time' and caught this on video...

Itinerary 29:03:2014
Visit to Trenton New Jersey
'At 10:50am on Saturday, 29th March, 2014, the New York City bound train pulled into Trenton, New Jersey. I had boarded the train in Philadelphia earlier and I was being met by a mate of mine, George S. We drove to the Washington Crossing State Park, where I was able to see the very spot that was the inspiration for this painting; an event that had a major impact upon the history of the world. I had first seen this painting as a print in a textbook while a student in primary school in the late 1970's. I then got to see it for the first time at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2006. Standing before this large canvas was one of the highlights of my visit to New York City. But in 2014 - it was time to look out over the Delaware River and consider a cold winters night 238 years previous when General George Washington led a fleet of boats across the river to surprise the German Hessians - who had been employed by the British to help crush the American Colonies. What is quite incorrect about this painting is that the crossing had to occurred at night... but regardless - it will always remain one of my favourite paintings of all time.' (copied from my journal)
